Question by Tricky Republican Dick: Do Republicans have a clue what “socialism” really means ?
They bandy that word around so knowingly, yet they don’t seem to stop and think: their once-exalted leader, George Bush, requested, and the congress, including most Republicans, passed, the bill in 2008 to buy up half the banks in the US.

(for those who don’t know, that is part of the definition of “socialism” 8-)

(how quickly they forget 8-)

No sh!t Sherlock, both parties suck, and yeah it’s socialism.

  • Ah Ha #27- TAKE A STAND NOW! says:

We got a socialist president, so yes I do.

  • yellow.45 says:

but, but, bush wasn’t a republican he was a rhino neo con…lol or something like that. their use of the word socialism is just another attempt by the right to frame the argument. i will have to give them credit for that. the right has a way with words even if those words are lies. so it goes.

  • what ever says:

yes but the kids on y/a have no clue

  • Rhoda says:

No, but they know hate and lies, look at what they’re doing at the town hall meetings. Is that normal behavior? They’ll bring out their guns next.

  • Voice of Reason says:

For the record, I protested that move, too.

Though I can’t refute your point. Seems that word does get bandied about only when the other party is the one putting government over the will of the people.

    Star.

(see…there is still such thing as civil discourse)

  • Leslie D says:

I agree. These words just become catchphrases used as scare tactics. We need to learn more about history.

  • ThumperDoodle says:

I don’t think they do. They really think that Obama is a socialist and wants to socialize medicine. Calling Obama a “socialist” simply isn’t logical. He doesn’t share the belief that industries should be nationalized by the government or even taken over by the workers as many American Marxists espouse. He may not be as wedded to the free market as a conservative but he doesn’t want to get rid of it. He wants to regulate it. He wants “capitalism with a human face.” He wants to mitigate some of the effects of the market when people lose. This is boilerplate Democratic party liberalism not radical socialism.

  • trl_666 says:

Yea I have a clue what it is and I also know that Bush pulled one of the most Socialistic moves ever! Both parties are complete garbage right now. We need to vote ALL of them out.

  • No Repubs Or Demos says:

Socialism is a bad word, so it gets thrown around as an insult. It doesn’t matter what it really means, the important thing is that it is an insult.

  • Brandon L says:

Republicans tend to conveniently forget that the first president to buy out GM/Chrysler, Bailout the banks, and create a stimulus plan was George Bush 43, not Barack Obama. Honestly, I believe they are just blindly following whatever comes out of fox news these days. Rarely do they think for themselves, after all, they have Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, and Rush Limbaugh doing it for them.

  • jerome2all says:

No…. all they can do is follow the leader…. their leader says that socialism means Obama and they dare not question it. So do they have a clue about what the word means… no…. and they are perfectly fine with it.

  • Pamela J says:

It’s the grown-up equivalent of “cooties”. Doesn’t mean anything, but it’s easy for stupid people to remember and repeat.

  • Zarathustra says:

Doesn’t it mean Democrat? That’s what Limbaugh told me.

  • I want tastebuds says:

I just want them to get so spitting mad, their dentures fall out. Thats all.

  • Charles M says:

Yes I do, and the conservative end of the GOP fought against it. But it was a neocon (GW) and a democratic congress, along with a number of other neocons and rinos, that passed tarp.

Trust me, conservatives know what socialism is. Are we a socialist nation, partially yes. And with every program that the government gets involved in, we step closer and closer to that idea (except there is a problem, in true socialism, there is no ruling class, that becomes a dicatorship)

  • Republicans Stole Trillions$$$ says:

And don’t forget bush socialized airport security.

And don’t for get nixon used socialist “price and wage controls” after he destroyed the economy.

  • Chillax Mayng says:

how are you a tricky dick?
    you obliviously don’t have one

  • kadiss17 says:

    I think it’s you who doesn’t understand.

  • adam D says:

Obama is nowhere near the definition of a Socialist, that’s a scare tactic used by the Republican party

  • Sam Sneed says:

    Conservatism is socialism…………………….

  • downwithsocialists says:

I hate socialism of all sorts, both Republican Socialists and Democratic Socialists

  • samhbane says:

I am a registered republican and let me assure you that I do understand socialism. Just for your information I have been around the horn a time or two. I have lived and worked in several countries. The governments of these countries encompassed virtually every form of rule known to mankind. I lived under Kings, Dictators, Socialist, quasi democracies, and yes even under communism. So before you put all republicans in one group I suggest you take a little time to educate your self.

I do know what socialism really means and where you and Barack Obama are wanting to lead us is definitely Socialism and it ain’t good. I hope that there are enough intelligent people who will wake up and stop this momentum. I sure do not wish for you to be forced to live under such a system. I promise that you would not like it.

  • Skull Boy says:

Real socialism is basically Marxism. This means the government owns and runs most industries and commerce. Countries the conservatives typically call socialist such as Sweden, Canada and France are nowhere near real socialism and the US is even further away. In fact, the US government has ownership in less than .08% of all businesses.

Yes, because of the 16th amendment (which was a Republican initiative signed by a Republican President), Social Security and other entitlement programs, you can argue that the US is more socialist than it was 100 years ago, but even if government healthcare comes to pass, the US is still light years from what Karl Marx would’ve wanted.

  • Mala Martin says:

THE DEFINITION OF THE WORD SOCIALIST AS RELATED TO HEALTHCARE, IS THAT IT IS A NON-PRIFIT ORGANIZATION. HOWEVER, I FOUND THAT MOST ELDERLY WOMEN I’VE TALKED TO, DON’T KNOW THAT.
ALSO, THEY ACTUALLY THINK THAT CANADA’S HEALTHCARE CAN’T BE GOOD. AS A FORMER CANADIAN, BELIEVE ME, IT WAS VERY NICE TO KNOW THAT EVERYONE HAD HEALTHCARE, AND DIDN’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT BEING CUT OFF WHEN THEY NEEDED IT MOST.
